Garon is the third addition to my collection of reversible blanket designs, which also includes Tregaron and Haverfordwest. But of all the knitted afghans I have in my house - and I have quite a few - my four-year-old likes Garon the best. He says, “It’s like jumping into a swimming pool full of wool!” I couldn’t hope for a better endorsement than that.

Garon is for snuggling, for cuddling, for warming by the fire. Garon is the big squishy blanket everyone reaches for. It’s the blanket you love to share. Garon is beautifully identical on both sides. My thinking is: for an afghan, you are going to see both sides of the blanket - there’s no avoiding it; so both sides should be beautiful. After all - it’s not much fun to think of spending several dozen hours making a blanket that’s only 50% attractive. Garon will complement any décor, and lends itself to easy variations in size. It’s also a fun knit - plenty of knit/purl patterning, some lace work, and even cabling to keep things interesting. Worked in luscious super-bulky wool, it knits up in no time - perfect as a quick but unforgettable gift for a wedding or, scaled down, a baby shower.

Garon requires about 1500-1600 yards Mirasol Ushya, Madelinetosh A.S.A.P. or Cascade Lana Grande for the 46 inch x 62 inch afghan.
