The Garrity Cowl, designed for the 2019 Malabrigo Quickies program, uses elongated stitches to create an interesting surface texture. As a bonus, the cowl is completely reversible—the wrong side has a basketweave appearance. Chunky, single-ply Mecha takes Malabrigo Yarn’s signature colorways beautifully and creates a thick fabric which can be tucked inside to make an extra-cozy cowl.

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions. PLEASE PRINT PATTERN IN COLOR.

A video demonstrating the elongated stitch technique can be found HERE.

Recommended Yarn:
Malabrigo Yarn Mecha — 100% merino — 130 yds (119 m) to 100 g per skein. Shown in colorway Aniversario. Cowl uses two skeins or approx. 245 yds (224 m).

Sizing:
28” (71 cm) around base and 24” (61 cm) around body, 11” high (28 cm).

Gauge:
19 sts and 24 rounds to 4” (10 cm) in Main Body Pattern; 20 sts and 24 rounds to 4” (10”) in Base Ribbing.

PLEASE NOTE: I knit the sample with a US 9 (5.5 mm) needle, but I knit fairly tightly. To meet given dimensions and ensure enough yarn, use needle size that gives gauge. Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used.

Needles:
US 8 (5 mm) circular needle in 24” (60 cm) length.

Other Materials:
Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
