This pretty scarf is knit longways and is a great project for those comfortable with garter stitch and wanting to expand their horizons. It is also a great knit for an expert who is looking for a relaxing (think TV) knit with enough going for it to keep it interesting.

This scarf uses a relatively small amount of yarn and can be worked in any worsted to heavy worsted weight yarn. You could make this in a bulky yarn with an adjustment in needle size to 8, 9 or 10mm depending on the size of your yarn. You may wish to cut back on the number of pattern repeats to keep the width manageable in a bulky yarn.

You could also make this scarf longer by casting on more stitches, always having an even number on your needle to make the pattern work.
