If you want to make mitts, but aren’t ready to try knitting in the round, these mitts are for you! They are knit flat in garter stitch, from the top down, then seamed. They are a beginner friendly project, as there are no purl stitches.
This pattern is designed to use the most of 2 x 1.75 oz (50g) cakes of dk/worsted gradient yarn. I’ve used yarn by Ozifarmer’s Market on Etsy. You can of course make this in any yarn you have in stash that knits to gauge, and my prototype was knitted in a solid colour (the purple one in the photos). You can also check out the projects made by my testers.
There is a thumb gusset but not a full thumb. You can fold the cuffs up for extra coziness, or keep them long, it’s up to you! Buttons are an optional decoration and I’ve shown the mitts with and without buttons.
Two sizes are included in the pattern: M: 7.5” (19.5cm); L: 8” (20.5cm).
Gauge for M: 22 st to 4” (10cm) in garter stitch, not blocked.
Gauge for L: 20 st to 4” (10cm) in garter stitch, not blocked.
