The Gatsby hat is a great way to indulge in some fun colourwork in a lovely small project. Perfect for stranded-knitting beginners (there is no need to secure floats) as well as experienced colourwork enthusiasts who enjoy an engaging yet relaxing knit.
Written for 3 sizes to fit adult Small, Medium, and Large, this pattern includes full written instructions including the colourwork and instructions for customisation. Two inverse colour charts are also provided to make it easier for you to follow visually depending on your chosen yarn colours.
Yarn Requirements
M (variegated colour): 70 (80) 90m/77 (87) 98yd fingering weight yarn (400-420m/437-459yd per 100g/3.53oz).
C (solid colour): 100 (110) 120m/109 (120) 131yd fingering weight yarn (400-420m/437-459yd per 100g/3.53oz).
Warm Colours sample was knit using Cat & Sparrow Australia Persie at 210m/229yd per 50g/1.76oz (M - Velvet, C - Gilded).
Cool Colours sample was knit using Malabrigo Sock at 402m/440yd per 100g/3.53oz (M - Persia, C - Pearl).
Needles & Notions
2.5mm (US 1.5) and 3mm (US 2.5) needles. You can use a single 60cm (24”) circular needle (or longer as required), or two circular needles (if you like to use the Magic Loop method). 1 BOR stitch marker for marking the beginning of rounds and additional markers to separate repeats. Tapestry needle.
Tension/Gauge
27 sts x 33 rounds to 10cm (4”) over stranded colourwork pattern in the round using 3mm (US 2.5) needles before blocking.
Finished Sizes S (M) L
Circumference: 42 (49) 56cm / 16.5 (19.3) 22”.
Length: 23cm / 9”.
