This is the very first tile I am publishing. More tile patterns will become available in the near future.

This tile is crocheted in mosaic overlay technique, in the round. This implies that there are no numerous ends to fasten off, just two for each color used. The technique is not difficult, as long as you pay close attention to the stitch placement in the chart.

Gazania is made in 20 rounds, starting with a magic circle. Stitches used are (all in US terms): slip stitch, chain stitch, half double crochet, single crochet in back loop only, double crochet in front loop only.

The pattern can be made in two or in three colors of your choice, but contrasting colors give the best results. Each tile that is made with DK weight yarn (115-130 m per 50 g skein) will measure about 24-26 cm and weigh about 36-44 g.

This tile will yield beautiful results in acrylic or cotton or a mixed fiber. When combined, the tiles interact and create a stunning effect. This makes them perfect for a pillow or a throw/blanket/bedspread. Additionally, you can crochet-as-you-go until your project has the desired size.

The pattern includes a chart, written instructions and photos to illustrate certain stitches or techniques.

I created a separate file, ‘Mosaic Tile – Crocheting the First Four Rounds’, a tutorial with plenty of photos on how to start a mosaic tile. It is intended for those who are not familiar with mosaic crochet and need more information than the pattern provides.

The adventurous may want to crochet this tile with two colors in the foreground, applying tapestry technique to carry the unused color along. The photo of the pink and green/sage flower with the cream background is an example. In the center of this tile, pink was combined with sage, further out pink was combined with green. The pattern contains detailed instructions for this tapestry technique.

Have fun with it and please share your creations here!

Happy hooking!
