Summer is the perfect time to wear those ankle socks. And since they don’t require a lot of yarn, get out those leftovers and mini-skeins and play with some colour!

These socks will look as lovely in gently muted tones as they do in vibrant summery colours. So come and play! Pick two colours: a contrast colour (CC) for stripes, toes, heels, and a small brim. And of course, the main colour (MC).

I was able to get by with one mini-skein (ca. 20g) of the CC, but you might want to make sure you have more if you don’t like a good game of yarn chicken. Or want to make the socks longer.

This is not a whole sock pattern, but rather a recipe to be supplemented with your favourite toe and heel. I prefer using short-row toe and heel constructions. A fabulous one can be bought on Ravelry for US $ 1.00 from the Sox Therapist:

This is a recipe for making socks which requires some knowledge on sock construction and your preferred sizing.
Some hints on sizing are given, based on my gauge and sock size.

The recipe gives hints and additional information that can be ignored if you use a different toe and / or heel construction or do not need a mini-gusset with the FLK heel.

Gauge on 10x10 cm:
36 stitches and 50 rows in stockinette after soaking

Yarn:
about 220 – 250m m of Fingering, 140 – 160m of MC and 80 - 90m of CC
(Vi)laines Chaussettes. The recipe works equally well with the old version (grey) as the new one (yellow)

Needles:
2.25mm (US 1) and 2mm (US ) for brim
