Ginger Vest
The Ginger Vest is an elegant cable vest, with a folded crew neck in twisted 1x1 rib.
The Ginger Vest is knitted back and forth, from the back up, over the shoulders and down the front. An opening is worked for the neck which you will make by picking up stitches along the neckline. You first work the back, for which you cast on stitches using the Italian cast on. You then work the hem in twisted rib and continue working the back in the Ginger cable pattern. Decreases are worked to shape the armholes. German Short Rows are worked at the top of the back, before you start working the shoulders. After the German Short Rows, you will split the shoulders (by casting off some stitches in the center) and work the left and right shoulders and fronts separately, whilst shaping the neckline by first making some decreases followed by increases. In a next step you will join the right and left fronts again, by casting on new stitches in between. You continue working the front back and forth in the established cable pattern. Increases are worked to shape the armholes at the front. The front hem is worked in twisted rib. Stitches are cast off with the tubular bind off technique. In a final step, the neck is made. Stitches are picked up and the neck is worked in the round in twisted 1x1 rib. The pattern includes a modification option for the body:- tapered fit (with increases in the back panel / decreases in the front panel)- straight fit (no increases / decreases)Besides the crochet join I’ve used for the body, you can also find tips to make another type of join (fixed straps or i-cord ties).
NOTE: This pattern includes 10 pdf files per language:
1 file with the written instructions (for all sizes) + 9 files with charts PER SIZE.
The Ginger Vest is another addition to the Ginger Collection, which is growing each year.
The Ginger Vest is a vest with a positive ease of approx. 5 - 8 cm (2 - 3.25 inches) compared to the body bust circumference. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL correspond to a bust
circumference (of the body) of approx. 74 (84) 94 (104) 114 (124) 134 (144) 155 cm (29.25 (33) 37 (41) 45 (48.75) 52.75 (56.75) 61 inches) respectively. Keep in mind that the final measurements of the vest already take these extra 5 - 8 cm (2 - 3.25 inches) into account. Ease is a personal preference. Take the necessary measurements to determine the right size for you before you start knitting.
