Here’s another potholder pattern to make and enjoy. It uses three colors of heavier cottons, such as Pisgah’s Peaches n Creme, Lily Sugar ‘n Cream, or Lion Brand Cotton. To make these potholders appear to look like gingham, I used white with two colors in the same color family, like two colors of blue, yellow or purple (one lighter, one medium).

The three color stitch looks harder than it really it. You crochet across one row, start another color, turn and go back across, then you start a third color, turn and go back across. Then you pick up the white, turn and crochet across. You keep picking up the color that is waiting for you at the other end. You don’t have to cut and start yarn all over, it is continuous.

For the edging, I used a thinner cotton—Patons Grace. I also wove in matching grograin ribbon between the edging posts and finished off the potholder with a crocheted daisy.

The result is a very homey potholder that can be made to match any kitchen. Crochet and enjoy! Be sure to post your project and take good pictures to share, too.
