The 80’s are back! Try this easy crochet scrunchie pattern out today!

Crochet scrunchies are ideal projects for beginners because they are super easy to crochet and they take very little time to complete.

You can use them to jazz up your ponytail and they make cute quick gifts you can give your friends and family.

You can use about any scrap yarn you’ve got lying around, which makes these little cuties great stash busters!

You can make them in one color or combine a couple of different colours, add embellishments, make them thin or thick, whatever tickles your fancy.

Crochet Ruffle Scrunchie Pattern (3 rounds, 3 colors)

Materials Needed
-Some classic worsted weight yarn (colors of your choice). Any yarn would do really, even if it’s fuzzy (if you’re a beginner, you might want to avoid fuzzy yarns, but they do look great for these types of scrunchies).
I used Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky Summer Garden by Kate Eastwood
-Crochet hook that fits your yarn. Generally I use between a size G/4mm to H/5mm hook. For this project, I used a 4.5 mm hook
-A tapestry needle
-A pair of scissors
-An elastic hair tie (best to be a firm tie without a metal clamp about 6 cm, 2.5 inches diameter)

Abbreviations
mc = magic circle
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
st = stitch
sts = stitches

Skill Level
Beginner

I use US crochet terms. Here’s a US/UK Conversion Chart

Gauge
Note: Gauge is not crucial for this crochet scrunchie. Just make sure you have enough stitches on the elastic hair tie so you don’t see the tie through your stitches. But don’t make too many stitches that would stretch out your hair scrunchie too much.
