This is a unique shape that begins with a diamond. The diamond has long extensions from its two top edges.The diamond itself is worn in the center back or center front of the body. The extensions are wrapped over the shoulders, crossed on the body side opposite the diamond, then wrapped around the waist and fastened in the center front or center back, beneath the diamond. On the adult ponchos, the extensions have some shaping.
YARN, GAUGE, SIZE AND MACHINE
Any machine may be used. For standards, use a #1 yarn and adjust to get 7 stitches/10 rows per inch. Passaps and Superbas count as standard gauge machines. For bulky and mid-gauge machines use a #4 yarn and adjust to get 4 stitches/6 rows per inch. Perfection of
gauge is not usually critical. Choose the size by holding a yard stick in front of the intended wearer if possible. Select the diamond size that completely hides her body at the waist and extends a bit beyond the body on each side. Sizes get proportionally longer as they get wider.
