Oversized cable sweater featuring a Celtic Cross pattern, diamond panels, rope cables, basket stitch and moss stitch.

The smallest sizing is given with easy adaptations for larger sizes.

Materials needed:

  • 500-600g Aran/10ply
  • Pair of 5.5mm (US size 9) needles (smaller/larger needles could be used)
  • Cable needle
  • DPNs/circular needle(s) for neck shaping. 5mm (US size 8) or smaller

Tapestry needle for sewing seams
Stitch markers recommended

The sweater is made flat in sections (front, back, and sleeves) then sewn together at the seams. Stitches are then picked up around the neck and worked in the round for the neck ribbing.

Gauge
Basket stitch 5.5mm needles = 8sts x 12rows = 5x5cm

To get a rough idea of finished size, with 5.5mm needles;
One repeat of the Celtic Cross = 12cm width x 7cm height
One diamond repeat = 8cm wide x 10cm high
The rope cables are 2cm across.

There is an error in R7 of the Celtic Cross Pattern;
It should read:
K2, p2, k4, (p4, k4)x2, p2, k2
