About:For this lace pattern, I drew inspiration from my childhood in the Faroe Islands. Growing up, I could see the city’s rooftops from my bedroom window and the distinctive slanted gable window on the house across the street. When I think back to my life in the Faroes, two of the things that always come to mind are the rooftops and the little gable windows.

This pattern is named “Gluggar,” which is the Faroese word for windows.

Construction:The shawl is constructed as a traditional Shetland half hap and starts off with a single slip knot. It is fully charted and also has written instructions for the charts. It is suitable for the intermediate knitter or the adventurous beginner, who wants to venture into more challenging knits.

The instructions include schematics, charts, written instructions for the charts, notes on construction and instructions for special techniques such as Icelandic Bind Off and Knitted Cast On.

Needles and notions

• 80cm / 32” or longer, 3.0mm (UK 11, US 3) circular needles (or needles suitable for your yarn)
• 4 stitch markers (If possible: 3 markers in one colour and 1 marker in a different colour to mark the beginning of RS rows.) you might want to use additional stitch markers for repeats
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Note on final measurements
Sample shawl measures 80cm/31.5” by 175cm/69”. If you’d like a larger shawl, choose fingering or sportweight yarn and go up a few needle sizes :)
