Inspired by an elegant Japanese lace stitch design from the Japanese book Knitting Patterns Book 300, the Graceful Lace Scarf combines twisted and lace stitches.

Reference the 3rd photo on the left for a closeup of the scarf patterning – the main stitch pattern on the right side is a combination of lace and twisted stitches which create a graceful stitch design. The columns of vertical lace on the left are often used in both Japanese and traditional European stitch designs. The side borders of mock lace cable and twisted stitch columns (also from the Japanese book Knitting Patterns Book 300) add an elegant accent to the scarf.

The scarf is worked from the middle out to the end borders, and starts with a crocheted provisional cast-on. After the first half of the scarf is completed, the provisional cast-on is unraveled, the live stitches picked up onto your needle, ready for working the second half of the scarf.
