When I received this new yarn, I immediately thought I had to design a gradient cowl that pretty much any knitter could handle. The yarn itself starts with all 6 plies in the same color, giving you a solid. Each consecutive mini ball removes a ply of the original color and adds a ply of the ending color, creating a perfect and even gradation of color throughout the 7 mini balls. The randomness of the purl versus knit rows in Gradey Fadey directly contradicts the achievement of the yarn…but it works!

I used one bundle of Zauber Perlen in colorway “Arabesque.” The pattern is designed to use up basically all of the yarn and has tips to adjust if needed.

Only one color is worked per row, and the only stitches used are knit and purl. It is a fantastic project to travel with or for Netflix knitting.

The finished size is approximately 14” tall x 26” around, depending on how aggressively you block it. Gauge was measured before blocking.

A 16” size 2 needle was used. Even though it’s “just a cowl,” I still recommend swatching to get gauge!

You can purchase Zauber Perlen at Threadbender Yarn Shop. They ship all across the US and Canada.
