“Grain Of Earth” is a pendant necklace pattern. The pendant part shows how to add a cabochon or any other element while crocheting over it and fixing it in place.

The necklace is made in 2 variations:
The non-crochet necklace includes instructions on how to make the necklace without a crochet hook. It shows how to make a twined cord necklace.

The crochet necklace is a simplistic pattern which is even suitable for beginner’s level crocheting.

The necklace is quick and simple to make yet looks quite trendy and fashionable. I used waxed cording in earthy colors which makes it look more manly. However, if you use a different yarn/ cord color and elements, the necklace would look and feel quite different.

A little back story:
I made this necklace design in 2011 for a handmade jewelry exhibition. It was fun making it along with 200-300 different kinds of jewelry.

I used a vintage cabochon to make the pendant. I love the look of this cabochon which has real rice captured in time in resin. I was quite excited to find this rare cabochon in my craft supply store back in 2009. It makes me happy that I have used it for my pattern. It’s like spreading my joy with the entire world.

Finally, I’m also happy that one more of my UFO(Unfinished Object - not the necklace but the pattern) is complete. Yay to 2023!!!

Suggested Yarns:
You can use any 2mm waxed cotton cord for making this necklace. For making the pendant, you will need approximately 18-20 yards of cord. For making the twined necklace, you will require 2-3 yards of cord.

If you decide to crochet the necklace instead of the twined necklace, you will require 15-20 yards of yarn to make the necklace.

For the entire project, you will need approximately 40-45 yards of cord.

I Used:
Designs By Mamta Cord(100% Cotton; 10 yds9m; CYCA # 0): #Brown(A), #Black(B), #Green(C), 1 skein each.

Crochet Hook Size:
1.75mm/ US 00 crochet steel hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
