Grand Traverse celebrates the northern, big beautiful water and landscape of Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan’s lower peninsula. Merchant tall ships sailed this watery world in early maritime days.

Enjoy casual coziness in style with this Grand Traverse cowl. Knit with rustic Mountain Meadow Wool, it’s earthy and soft. No fuss fashion. Great with or without a jacket. One size works for anyone!

This project is loaded with techniques: provisional cast on, basic intarsia color work, grafting, and picking up stitches will keep you entertained.

Grand Traverse is knit back and forth as a rectangle. Then the live stitches of the ends are grafted together to form a tube. Stitches are picked up along each edge and finished with ribbings.

Great project for a class or knit along!
Links to tutorials for techniques are included in the pattern.
Intarsia color work pattern is provided in chart form.

Special thanks to my son Ethan for photography, and to my son Adam, daughter in law Chelsy, and their cattle dog Caddis, who live on Old Mission Peninsula, for modeling at Old Mission Point Park in Grand Traverse Bay.
