The Granny Bricks Scarf & Shawl is an easy and enjoyable project, showcasing classic granny squares in a new and eye-catching way! In this made-to-measure project you will be crocheting Granny Bricks, that together will form a scarf or shawl. Each granny brick is made of 3 granny squares that are joined as you go. No sewing is required.

The pattern explains how to figure out the number of bricks you’ll need for your desired size, how to crochet them and seamlessly join them with an all-crocheted, join-as-you-go seam.

Whether you’re planning a burst of color or a subtle fade, this project is perfect for using up scrap yarns, mini skeins and advent calendars, or perhaps that luxury yarn? Get creative!

LANGUAGE

  • English (US terminology)
  • Svenska (Swedish)

SKILL LEVEL
Easy / advanced beginner.
Most of the project is easy, but the join as you go-seam for assembling all bricks needs a bit more attention to detail.

GAUGE
No specific gauge - use your own gauge!

SIZES & FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
You can make this project in any size! How to plan for and build a project in your desired size is fully explained in the pattern. In short, the SCARF will always have an uneven number of bricks, and sizes change by 2 bricks. The SHAWL size can be made with 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36 or 45 bricks, etc.

Example sizes (Width×Height):

  • Pattern sample fingering weight scarf (multicolored), 201×15 cm (79×6’’). Made with 17 bricks.
  • Pattern sample sport weight shawl (red/blue/gray), 142×51 cm (56×20”). Made with 21 bricks.

Examples: number of bricks used and approximate sizes (using fingering or sport):
SCARF: 7, 9, or 11 bricks (shorter scarf). 13 or 15 (medium length). 17, 19 or 21 bricks (long to very long scarf).
SHAWL: 15 bricks (small sized shawl). 21 or 28 bricks (medium size). 36 bricks (large size).
