Here is my latest lekker CAL, Granny I Shrank Your Squares.
With 30 different ‘blokkie’ designs to choose from and two border options, you really can get creative with this one. Choose 1 square, 5 squares, or all the squares and make your blanket any size you like. The pattern is totally adaptable.

Making such little ‘blokkies’ also adds the bonus of being the PERFECT scrap buster and a super ‘lekker’ carry around project when you’re going to a braai and you wanna still crochet a bit.
This CAL is also the perfect one to jump in on if you’ve been checking out my patterns and you’re maybe a teensy bangbroek. It’s gonna take you through most of my favourite stitches and techniques, so by the time you’ve made your blokkies, you’ll be ready to tackle any one of my patterns.

If you haven’t noticed yet, you’ll also be taking a little stroll with me through some of my favourite South Africanisms, foods, and just words I like, we’re gonna have a ‘jol’!

The Prelude will be released and uploaded to your library on Monday 16th June 2025. Please make sure you download a copy and keep it handy for the duration of the CAL.
The Prelude contains all yarn information for both Colorway 1 and 2, all stitch abbreviations, photo tutorials and videos for the more complicated stitches and further important information regarding the pattern.

Week 1 will begin on Monday 23rd June.
Each week 4 squares will be released, 2 on a Monday, 2 on a Friday. Check into your library for your download.

The pattern will be released in parts with each new part being uploaded to your library (either Ravelry or the Hooked On Sunshine website library).
The pattern contains 30 different square designs, a join and two border options.
The squares (my tension, DK cotton and 4mm hook), measure 10cm each and the heaviest square uses approximately 12grams of yarn.

The CAL will run over 10 Parts, including the join and the border.

Colourway 1, Bright Rainbow, Blanket size – 157cm x 157cm
Colourway 2, Pastel Rainbow, Blanket size – 117cm x 117cm

Although the pattern is rated intermediate, it really is the perfect pattern for a newbie to learn new stitches and techniques without being overwhelmed by a huge project and a fabulous way to gain crochet confidence.

If you are a newbie or are looking to hone your crochet skills I would recommend working the written pattern in conjunction with the videos. This will give you a better understanding of techniques, stitches and how my patterns are written.
