Recently, I found a bargain thrift shop denim jacket. It was perfect for a crochet sleeve experiment. The resulting up-cycled jacket is better than I expected – comfortable, easy care, and easy to make. This pattern will get you started on this up-cycling adventure too!

The sleeves have been worked in the round in rows of granny squares. Grannies were chosen because the stitches have the visual weight to match denim. Each sleeve is worked in a different colour and then has the cuff completed in the opposite sleeves colour.

Materials required

• 4.5mm and 5.5mm hook
• 4 Balls DK weight yarn (400g) in your colour choice
• Darning needle (sharp)
• scissors
• tape measure
• Stitch markers (optional)
• Sewing awl
• chalk pencil
• denim jacket
• unpicking tool or seam ripper

Pattern requires removal of existing denim jacket sleeves. Ability to work a row of blanket stitch.
