I have listed a suggested yarn and hook size based on what I preferred and calculated the gauge based on making the small size.

But, as you will be working to size (e.g. continue until it reaches 38inches) instead of a specific number of rows it is easy to adapt to what ever yarn you have, hook size you prefer and size you need.
