Gridlock: this suave scarf uses our yarn to its best advantage; it enfolds the wearer with subtle undulations. Simple rib and garter stitch creates ‘waves’ in the fabric. Suitable for both men and women. Enjoy…

Inspired by the great Mary Thomas, the great-grand-mother of knitting design. She explains in her seminal work (Mary Thomas’ Book of Knitting Patterns) how to alternate stocking stitch with garter stitch. The old English name is All Fools’ Welt, The French call it Puzzle Stitch and the Germans, Dispute Stitch.

She explains how to construct complicated welts (vertical) with ribbing (horizontal), crossing each other, as in weaving.

“I have based the Gridlock on her ‘Harris Tweed Pattern’. I couldn’t resist.” - BELINDA HARRIS-REID
