Ready to knit a garment that can be worn by the same child for more than just one year? This cute cardigan has button-on borders at the wrists and bottom edge, as well as two lines of buttonholes down the front. As the child grows, simply move the borders to the lower buttons, and use the second row of buttonholes to close the front.

SIZE: 1, 2, 3, 4. Finished chest measurements: 22, 23, 25, 26.5 inches (56, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5 cm). Size note: Each size expands into the next size, adding 1” (2.5cm) to the chest measurement and 1.5” (4cm) to the length.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • 3 (3, 4, 4) skeins (137yds/50g skein) DK weight yarn for main color (shown: Debbie Macomber’s Blossom Street Collection 100% superwash merino, color 506- Bachelor Button)
  • 1 skein (137yds/50g skein) DK weight yarn for contrasting color (shown: Debbie Macomber’s Blossom Street Collection 100% superwash merino, color 501- Bleeding Heart)
  • US6/4.0mm needles (flat, and circular and/or double-pointed needles to knit in the round)
  • Buttons- five, ¾’ or 19 mm, and 32 (32, 40, 40) 7/16” (11mm)
  • 4 stitch markers
