These stranded colour work socks are knitted portraits of my rescue hound Bear, who’s DNA test proves him to be a mix of Greyhound and Saluki ancestors…. hence I call him a Greyluki, or Gr’uki for short!

They are worked from the toe up & feature a single gusset on the sole of the foot, in place of the more usual pair of gussets on either side, and an incorporated heel flap. I find this gives more room to get the sock on and is easier to knit as there is no picking up of stitches around the heel flap.

You should be familiar with stranded knitting & sock construction. There are plenty of good tutorials on line to help with particular instructions given in this pattern: Judy’s Magic Cast On, Left-leaning & Right-leaning increases, Wrap & Turn short rows.

SIZE: This fits my UK size 5 foot which is 9 1/4 “ long & 9 1/2” around the widest part. Length could be added by putting extra rounds of plain knitting or stripes into the toe band design. Larger needles could be used to make a wider sock. To make longer socks, you could work the toe band again before working the cuff.

Two contrasting colour 4ply yarns are needed, plus scraps of leftovers for the decorative bands around the toe & the Gr’uki’s collar, and a very small bit of pink for the pinkie nose. Also, I added a couple of seed beads to each sock for the “sparkle in Bears eyes. This is optional.
