27 sts / 32 rnds = 4” (10cm) 3.5mm (US 4) over textured pattern with main yarn, or needle size to obtain the gauge.

Circulars or dpns, circular needle 3.25mm (US 3) a 16” (40cm) for the lining
Circular needle 3.5mm (US 4) a 16” (40cm), tapestry needle, and dpns 3.25mm (US 3) x 5 for the crown.

Construction of the kep

The kep is started from the lining, then the textured body,
and finishing with the crown adding a braid and a tassel
which is optional.
After you have knitted the top of the crown with your lining yarn you join in the round and work the rest of the lining in stocking stitch, then add your main yarn and work
right up to the top of the kep until you need to change to
dpns. This kep has a square crown.
