Guga
The Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth is home to the world’s largest colony of northern gannets – the guga. In 2023, after a trip out to see the Bass Rock, we bought our first little boat and named her Guga. This sweater is everything I want for a blustery day on the water. The textured yoke is a nod to the traditional gansey, a classic amongst seafarers, and the mock neck gives a little bit of protection against a chilly wind.
CONSTRUCTION
Guga is worked from the top down with drop shoulders. The back is shaped with short rows. The sleeves and collar are picked
up and worked separately.
GAUGE
18 stitches x 30 rows per 10 cm / 4” with 4.5 mm
US 7 needles in Stockinette Stitch and 2 x 2 Ribbing, after blocking.
Note: The yoke is worked in 2 x 2 ribbing. You may need to use different needle sizes to get gauge for the yoke and the body.
