This reversible scarf is just the right size to keep your neck and chest warm on surprisingly nippy mornings on the Gulf Coast. It is the perfect beginner crochet project.

The pattern includes two PDFs to download, one for the worsted weight version and one for the fingering.

Worsted weight version:

  • one skein Wool of Louisiana 100% Gulf Coast Native Wool, 150 yards, 3 ply worsted weight
  • gauge: 10 sts and 5 rows per 4” (10 cm) in pattern
  • size: 6” (15 cm) wide x 45” (114 cm) long

Fingering weight version:

  • one skein Wool of Louisiana 70% Gulf Coast Native Wool/30% Merino, 310 yards, 2 ply fingering weight
  • gauge: 20 sts and 5.5 rows per 4” (10 cm) in pattern
  • size: 6” (15 cm) wide x 45” (114 cm) long

Wool of Louisiana is commercially spun from wool from herds in the Zachary, Louisiana area. Unfortunately, it is no longer available online.

Suggested yarn replacements are any worsted or fingering weight yarn. Would be lovely with handspun.

Skill level: beginner - only requires chain stitch and double crochet
