Guovssahas – Northern Lights

One of the Sámi names for the Northern Lights is Guovssahas, meaning “the audible light.” It was said that the ancestors lived in the Northern Lights, and that the crackling sound heard as the lights danced across the sky was the sound of the ancestors’ souls.

Guovssahas is a unisex sweater worked from the bottom up with a circular yoke shaped with decreases. The sweater is worked in the round in stockinette stitch and stranded colorwork.
