Gwystyl is a brioche hat and cowl set knitted in the round. The brioche motif is reminiscent of wind blown pine trees.

Size: Hat and Cowl both are 22″ (56 cm) circumference.
Cowl is 12″ (30 cm) tall. Hat is 8 5/8″ (22 cm) tall.

Yarn: Yarn is your choice of sport weight yarn. A fiber that is not machine washable is important to use with brioche. Sample used Linaza and Linaza Hand Dyed or any 2 colors of sport weight yarn.
103 yds (95 m) of Light Color (LC) and 96 yds (88 m) of
Dark Color (DC) for hat.
190 yds (174 m) of LC and 75 yds (69 m) of DC for cowl.

Gauge: 25 stitches and 32 rounds per 4″ (10 cm) in Border Chart.
For 1 Brioche motif, 3 5/8″ (8.8 cm) per 20 stitches,
7/8″ (2 cm) per 6 pairs of rounds.

Needles: US 4 (3.5 cm) 16″ (40 cm) circular needles and
DPNs to finish the hat. Or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions: 7 markers, cable needle, measuring tape,
scissors and darning needle.

Difficulty: Intermediate: cabling, increasing and
decreasing in brioche, knitting in the round, brioche and
moving the start of the round
