About

Hadotso is an oversized, rectangular shaped scarf… rich in texture with very simple colorwork. The pattern tells a story… the colors I chose in my sample represent me. The beauty that comes out in your design will represent you…

Hadotso Shawl draws design inspiration from the sun, the bright summer blue sky and the deep reds and oranges found in the landscapes of the mesas.

While I knit the sample pattern in all ‘new’ yarn, this is THE PERFECT project to use up small amounts of stash yarn. Consider using yarn from a variety of yarn makers…and experiment with non-traditional color combinations.

I hope you enjoy telling your own story with your yarn choices, as much as I enjoyed telling mine.

Pattern Overview:

  • Finished wrap after blocking is 14 in {width} x 120 in {length}.
  • This rectangular shawl is constructed in one piece. Each chart is designed specifically to transition from one to another seamlessly.
  • Worked on straight or circular needles (your choice). It is NOT knit in the round.
  • The pattern is written for fingering weight yarn.
  • Includes measurements {after blocking} for each individual section in case you alter the pattern. Mosaic knitting {Complete instructions for Mosaic Knitting are included}. Also included is an example chart, labeled in detail {anatomy of a mosaic knitting chart}.
  • Two stitches are used: knit stitch, slip stitch 13 charts are used in the knitting of the 13 pattern sections. The ability to read charts OR the willingness to LEARN HOW to read charts is a must.*
  • All pattern charts have been placed into their own pdf file because they required landscape layout. Also included are photographs of what each charted sections looks like. Written directions are provided for the first four rows of each chart (the first knit through) to serve as a reminder. Schematic diagrams of the various parts of a mosaic knitting chart is included as well.
  • Please read over the entire pattern before starting.

……..

You will receive TWO .pdf downloads:

  1. Pattern Notes include: discussion about the inspiration for the design, detailed and charted yarn color description, gauge info, needle info, notions, measurements and suggestions for altering the pattern (should you need to), abbreviations, complete stitch guide with written and suggested video links, general notes about the charts, clear ‘rules’, cast on and bind off info as well as a resource section.
  2. Hadotso Charts: This document is a landscape layout that includes all of the charted information. It is designed to use as a ‘workbook’. A schematic of colors is included as well as a schematic for the chart sections…in addition, an ‘anatomy of a mosaic chart’ schematic. This is thorough, but designed for anyone to be able to knit. Remember, this is a pattern made up of 13 isolated designs…I tried to make this as user friendly as possible. For each chart, you will find a zoomed in photographic image as well as a chart and a space for you to make your own notes!

All photography was by Heather Heitz (me). Yes, you can use the photography with credit given and a link provided back to the pattern!

This is a personal use pattern.

A third pdf file was added to the pattern on 3.6.19 titled ‘Hadotso Blocking Notes’. It outlines how I went about blocking this large shawl. NO CHANGES were made to pattern notes OR to the charts at this time. This update was merely an addition.
