There’s nothing better than a great big squishy garter stitch shawl to wrap yourself up in on a cool day. This triangular shawl starts with just a few stitches and is worked sideways with a centred double decrease stitch creating a sideways ‘spine’ effect. The colour changes keep it interesting and the garter stitch knitting is simple and soothing. Choose any three colours of sock or fingering weight yarn to make it your own.

This pattern is written for three skeins of Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply (the shawl shown here in green/blue). Two full skeins of C1 and C3 are needed and approximately 280 yards of C2 is needed. Colours shown here are Dark Aquarius (C1), Coventry (C2), and Fiddlehead (C3).

It is also shown here in Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles (grey/black/off-white). Colours are Urchin (C1), Graphite (C2), and Construct (C3). Two full skeins of C1 and C3 are required and approx 250 yards of C2.

Pattern includes list of abbreviations, diagram, and written instructions.

Finished measurements: Approximately 36 inches (91.5 cm) deep at middle point and 97 inches (246 cm) long across top edge, blocked.

Skills required: increasing, decreasing, changing colours for stripes, blocking. Stitches used: k, p, kfb, S2KP2 (centred double decrease).
