Hamaya
Hamaya is a textured, drapey, reversible triangular shawl created with sequence knitting. It was first published in 2016, a year after the book Sequence Knitting was published. This updated version uses ITO Kinu doubled to create a sport-weight yarn. ITO Kinu is a pure silk noil lace and is perfect for any season. It comes in a wide range of colors, so you can create a variety of different looks. The color scheme is two tonal colors split by a thin line of a contrasting color.
The total yardage is 1900–2000 of lace, which when doubled makes 950–1000 of sport weight yarn.
Hamaya is a sequence knitting triangle: every row begins with a sequence of stitches, which is repeated across the row, and ends with a double increase. There is always a partial sequence before the last stitch, which varies from row to row. The all-over stitch pattern, while “one row” in the knitting, has a 6-stitch and 6-row repeat on its chart: This is the magic of sequence knitting: you work “one row” but you create something more complex and rich. The promise is pattern-free knitting, but with an all-over texture like this, it can be a challenge to catch mistakes. Thus, the new pattern includes some tips and tricks to help you keep on track.
