These Handy Granny Mittens consist of traditional granny squares that are worked continuously and joined as you go, so NO sewing and NO yarn tails.

They have a traditional, cozy appearance that will be a go-to item when there i s a chill in the air.

The instructions are the same for all 4 sizes, so once you know how to make one size you know how to make them all. The way you get the difference sizes is to adjust the gauge. So for smaller mittens use thinner yarn and a smaller hook size, and thicker yarn and larger hook for larger mittens.

A video tutorial gives a thorough demonstration of all the techniques used.

The measurement chart in the pattern will help you decide which size to make, and if you do not know the wearer’s measurements then average measurements are given for age/sex.

Sizes range from:
XS - child 6 - 8 years
S - large child, small female
M - medium female
L - large female, medium male.

If you need to use an alternative yarn, then use DK / 8 ply for M and L sizes (approximately 1 1 /2 50 balls required)

Or 1 50gm ball of fingering / 4 ply for XS and S.
