Hanki is one of the many words for snow in Finnish language. More specifically it means the thick layer of snow on the ground. The name for the hat comes from the patterns that wind forms on top of hanki.

Hanki is a one colour brioche hat made of merino wool so it is super soft and lofty and does not itch. Even though the yarn is light fingering weight thanks to the double brim the hat is warm enough to be used even if it is much less than 0 °C outside.

SIZE: One size. Finished measurements unstretched after blocking: 42cm / 16.5” circumference, 28cm / 11” long.
Hat is shown on a 54cm / 21.3” head circumference.

YARN: Light fingering merino wool 460m / 100g (502 yards). The sample is knitted with Novita Baby Merino.

Yardage: approximately 53g = 244m = 267 yards.

NEEDLES:3mm (US 2,5) circular needle (60cm) and a set of double pointed needles. Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge.

ADDITIONAL TOOLS:Tapestry needle.

GAUGE:23 sts & 32 rounds = 10cm / 4” in one-color brioche stitch (measured unstretched, before blocking)
