Hannah’s Starlight Beanie was named with the beautiful Hannah & the lovely Star Stitch in mind. One of my favourite textured stitches, this one is worked into the Beanie and becomes one of its distinguishing features. This pattern makes quite a stretchy beanie, and will fit most heads from 12 years up to Adult (20 - 23 in/ 51 - 58.5 cm).

The style of this beanie is fitted on the head, but slightly slouchy on top. It is very comfortable and stylish to wear, especially with a cute pompom sewn on top.

When made in the Bellissimo Merino 12 yarn, it is warm, soft and cosy for the cold weather. This yarn is sourced from Australian and New Zealand merino sheep and it is such a soft, bouncy yarn to work with! A real pleasure to crochet with, if you love woollen yarns, you will love this one!

If you’re looking to make it in another yarn, Hannah’s Starlight Beanie has also been successfully tested in various brands of similar weight yarn. I highly recommend taking the time to make your full 10cm/ 4 in gauge swatch, and measuring it carefully, and adjusting hook size accordingly. It may make the difference between the beanie being a perfect fit or not. The .5 in the 14.5 sc was necessary to list, as the 10cm mark fell directly on the point halfway through the 15th single crochet.

Links are given in the pattern to an online video of the star stitch, made by my friend Emma @emmeclairecrochet, if you need some extra help with this beautiful stitch. It’s really enjoyable and easy to do once you know how!

Instructions are also given for how to make your own pompom if you’d like to try your hand at this. Or for perfect ready made pompoms, I suggest Kylee @lovelyloopsdesigns - Emma used a pompom made by Kylee for the top of her beanie (pastel pink pictured here)
