Happiness socks
How this journey started… Those of you who know me well, know that I never wear socks - not even in winter so I never had the urge to knit them, and to be honest, I always avoided knitting socks. I wanted to knit them as a satisfying and easy on-the-go project but just didn’t like the process of knitting socks. Fiddly, tiny needles, squeaky nylon feeling in fingering yarn and working in a small circumference was’t my idea of having fun.
That all changed a tiny bit when I tried out several knitting needles and methods from small circulars, DPNs, magic loop and working on several circular needles. In the end, I stuck with ‘grippy’ needles (as in less smooth). Whereas I totally dislike them when knitting shawls and other accessoires, for socks they worked for me. It still wasn’t that much fun but a round here and there was doable.
When I chatted with my friend Judy of ‘gigglinggeckoyarns’ about this, she told me about me her soxs yarn which has a different percentage of merino/nylon (80/20) than most sock yarns (75/25). So I gave the soxs yarn a try with the grippy needles and I knew I had found my golden combo for sock knitting and since then, I totally understand why everyone loves to knit them.
So, if you’re like me and struggle to enjoy sock knitting, maybe changing something small can also help you find the golden combo. Let me know if it does, I would love to hear it and learn a thing or two!
This sock pattern is knit from the top down and with a heel flap. It begins with the cuff and ends with the toes. The socks are easy to work from fully written-out directions with stitch counts, as well as a schematic and a video tutorial.
