I designed this as a flower toy for a baby that can have crinkle plastic inserted. Each petal is made in one piece and then seamed up the side once the plastic is inserted. Each petal is approximately 10cm long and 7cm wide. I used 8/8 cotton (DK weight) and 3.5 mm needles but you can use larger or smaller yarn and needles to make a larger or smaller flower. I added an icord rope to the centre back of my flower (optional) with a loop for hanging but if you do something like that make sure it isn’t too long for safety (no longer than 6 inches). As it’s for a baby I would suggest bright contrasting colours and if you wanted to you could try changing to yellow for the last few rows of each petal to give the flower a yellow centre.
The reason I called it a happy accident flower is because I was originally making more leaf shaped petals but had to make 2 and sew them together so I could insert the crinkle plastic between the layers (and I’m not a fan of sewing!). So I thought I could modify it to make it all in one piece and seam it down the back. I ended up with this shape which actually fit into each other perfectly when seamed down the side!
