The hat forms a set with Happy Birthday Mitts.

It is a simple pattern to follow, a quick fun knit with beautiful results. A very cute and different border gives the hat a unique look and matching mitts would add even more charm to your outfit.
A great wear for spring, summer and early fall, and if you choose the ribbing version - for the winter as well.

Size: The pattern is written in three sizes: small, medium and large, to fit head circumference of approx. 19, (21, 23)’’ / 48.5(53.5, 58.5)cm unstretched.
Size can also be adjusted by going up or down a needle size, or by changing the yarn weight and adjusting the needles accordingly.

The hat can come in several options:
• plain border with or without scalloped edge,
• border with embellishment (eg. satin ribbon),
• folded border with ribbing section underneath to keep hat well in place and protect ears from drafts

Level: Adventurous beginner or intermediate. The hat is knit in the round. The pattern uses basic knit and purl stitches, as well as K5in1 and cluster stitch in the border (detailed photo tutorial included).

Needle size: US 2 ½/3mm and US 4/3.5mm DPNs or circulars if you prefer the magic loop method.

Notions: a stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving ends.

Gauge: 20 sts and 27 rows in stockinette with US 2 ½ / 3mm needles = 10cm (4in). I knit rather loosely so you may need to go up a needle size (or two) to get the gauge. The gauge should be obtained with smaller size needles to keep it consistent with Happy Birthday Mitts pattern.

Yarn suggested: worsted weight yarn that meets the gauge. 40gr to 80gr depending on the size and version you choose.

The pattern has been tested and tech-edited by several English speaking knitters.
