Knit a happy capybara chef! Made from chunky yarn, the toy is quick, fun, and so cuddly. The chef’s jacket and toque will exercise some of your knitting skills, and add charm to this unique plush toy.

The finished toy is 33 cm (13”) tall. Knitting skills required include stockinette and seed stitch, m1 increases, left and right leaning decreases in knit and purl, simple intarsia, yarn-over stitch for buttonholes, picking up stitches, sewing seams, and assembling toy pieces. All the toy pieces are knit flat and then seamed.

Capybara Materials: 100 g of chunky weight yarn in light brown (MC), 30 g of chunky weight yarn in medium brown (CC), black yarn for embroidering face, pair of 12-15 mm brown buttons or safety eyes, stuffing, pair of 5 mm (US size 8) knitting needles, tapestry needle
Measurements: 33 cm (13 inches) tall
Gauge: 4.5 sts and 6 rows per 2.5 cm (1”)

Chef’s Jacket and Toque Materials: 75 g of worsted weight yarn in white (MC), 15 g of worsted weight yarn in contrasting colour (CC), pairs of 3.75, 4 and 4.5 mm (US sizes 5, 6 and 7) knitting needles, tapestry needle, six 13 mm (½”) buttons plus hand-sewing thread and needle to attach, safety pins or row markers
Gauge: Jacket: 5 sts and 7 rows per 2.5 cm (1”) in st st on 4.5 mm needles. Hat: 5.5 sts and 8 rows per 2.5 cm (1”) in st st on 4 mm needles
Measurements: Jacket: 28 cm (11”) around at chest, 14 cm (5.5”) long. Hat: 17 cm (7”) around, 7 cm (2.75”) tall
