“Hot air balloon, I could go to space
In the air like I don’t care
Baby, by the way
Because I’m happy…”

This listing is for a PDF (instant-download) of the Happy (Hot Air Balloon) Scarf Crochet Pattern, named after the song “Happy” by Pharell!

When I designed this scarf, all I kept seeing and thinking about were hot air balloons. You might be asking: but where is the balloon part? I guess what reminds me of hot air balloons are the repeating portions that look like baskets with figures sitting inside like they are on a ride through the air!

This scarf is a ONE HANK WONDER! It takes only one hank of ANY sock or fingering weight yarn in the shop to make.

It is a lot of fun to crochet and works up pretty quickly for a scarf made of sock yarn, 10 hrs or less! Seeing the little sprinkles in the Funfetti yarn along the way added extra happiness to the scarf making process.

This is one you can wear 3/4 seasons of the year. It is extra long and can be wrapped four times around the neck and worn close to the neck when you need more warmth (my favorite way to wear it), or wrapped 2-3 times when it’s a bit warmer. It hangs lightly and doesn’t require much fuss.

The scarf is unique and different, standing apart from the sea of rectangular scarves (which I also love, but just saying…).

The pattern contains clear, detailed instructions and pictures, as well as an additional section at the end with step by step instructions and photos for ALL stitches used!

Measurements (width x height in inches; includes fringe): 3.5 - 4 x 120.

Materials:
-1 hank of any Yarntuary fingering weight or sock yarn; Shown in photos are Girls Just Wanna Have Funfetti on 80% Merino wool, 10% cashmere and 10% nylon sock (425 yd, 100 g) and All You Need is Yarn on 100% Merino wool (399 yd, 100 g).
-Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook
-Tapestry needle and scissors
-Optional: Rust-proof pins and/or blockers to block scarf (can lay flat after soaking in water to dry without pins)

It is super easy to customize this scarf to use any yarn or change the width or height. The scarf is crocheted width-wise and at the beginning the multiple to chain is given for those who would like to change the width, for example, if you would like to make a shawl instead.

The skill level of this pattern is intermediate. If you think you are below that level and want to try and make it, take the plunge! There are pictures and instructions for all stitches used in the pattern and I am here to help if you get stuck, but you’ll probably do great!

To print without pictures, “Select All” in PDF and paste to a Word document.

I don’t accept returns or exchanges on digital products, however I am here to make sure you are happy with the product and am ready to assist in any way I can! Customer service is extremely important to me!
