Happy Little Orchard Collection - Hat

Use the code ORCHARD25 to get 25% off when buying both the Hat and Cowl pattern from this collection.

My 2022 autumn collection, inspired by the changing colours of the trees as we pass through from summer to winter. This pattern comes with full written instructions and colourwork charts for both a 4 and 3 colour version of this design.

The 4 colour sample fully embraces an autumnal colour palette, however, it was also pointed out that this design looks like lolly-pop so the 3 colour version has been knit in a Neapolitan colour palette to reflect this.

The Happy Little Orchard Collection is currently made up of two patterns: A hat and a cowl

Construction
Knit bottom up in the round using a two-stranded colourwork knitting technique, with a ribbed brim and decreased crown using the CDD stitch.

Sizes
Newborn, Baby, Toddler, Child, Adult S, Adult M, Adult L

Measurements
Approx. head circumference: 33, 38, 43 (48, 55, 58) cm / 13, 15, 17 (19, 21.5, 23)”

Sizing
To determine the most appropriate hat size to knit, measure the circumference of your head at the widest part. It is always best to have 1-3cm negative ease when knitting hats to ensure a snug fit, so select a size to reflect this.

Yarn
Aran weight yarn in 4 colours.
4 colour samples made in Cascade 220 Heathers (200m/100g) in colours Lake Chelan (9451), Birch (9564), Turtle (2452) and Pumpkin Spice (2453).

3 colour sample made in Drops Nepal (75m/50g) in colours Camel Mix, Light Beige Mix and Blush.
(sample in this yarn was knit on recommended needles, but some testers found that they had to drop by 0.5mm to meet gauge requirements when using this particular yarn).

Yardage
Approx. total weight/meterage/yardage – 28, 35, 45 (50, 61, 67) g / 55, 70, 90 (99, 122, 134) m / 60, 77, 98 (108, 134, 147) yds.

MC – 20, 32, 35 (39, 42, 48) m / 22, 35, 38 (43, 46, 53) yds.
CC1 – 12, 13, 28 (30, 32, 35) m / 13, 14, 30 (33, 35, 38) yds.
CC2 – 12, 13, 14 (15, 32, 35) m / 13, 14, 15 (17, 35, 38) yds.
CC3 – 12, 13, 14 (15, 16, 18) m / 13, 14, 15 (17, 18, 19) yds.

If you fancy knitting this hat longer than given measurements, please allow for this in your yarn requirements.
