Knitting this shawl brought back some happy memories from my childhood, it features abstract wheat ears and a wide border of garter stitch representing a waving wheat field. My friend and I used to jump the rows of straw and play in the surrounding fields while the adults where hard at work pressing and collecting straw bales. While those memories will always be attached to this design and yarn for me, my testers have proven that using different colours and types of yarn (thought still appropriate for this design) work perfectly as well. Feel free to use your imagination and make the shawl that fits you best.

This shawl has an assymetric design and measures approx. 66 inches (168 cm) on the longest side in Raincloud and Sage yarn. In Vinnis Colours the shawl measures approx. 63,4 inches (161 cm) on the longest side.

Gauge Raincloud and Sage:

  • Gauge in garter stitch after blocking: 4x4 inches (10x10 cm) = 14,5 stitches x 34 rows
  • Gauge in stockinette stitch after blocking: 4x4 inches (10x10 cm) = 15,5 stitches x 25 rows

Gauge and yardage Vinnis Colours Bambi:

  • Gauge in garter stitch after blocking: 4x4 inches (10x10cm) = 16 stitches x 36 rows
  • Yardage: approx. 673 yards (616 m)

Raincloud and Sage Origin (DK / 3ply; 100 g; 100 % merino; 218 yards/ 200 meters)

Or, for a more summery version use 350 g. Vinnis Colours Bambi (dk; 50 g; 70 % cotton slub/ 30% bamboo viscose; 96 yarnds/ 88 m) Though if you’re ok with a slightly smaller size 300 g. will do.

Substitutes could be: Blueface/Masham DK base from Tulliver yarns (https://www.tulliver.de/) and Blacker yarns who have a lot of DK weight options (https://www.blackeryarns.co.uk/knitting-wool-yarns/dk)
