The Happy Street Slipover is a comfortable, cropped garment, designed to be slipped overtop dresses, a t-shirt, or a flowy blouse to add the perfect amount of whimsy to your outfit of the day. Knit in worsted weight yarn held with a fluffy strand of lace weight yarn, this garment is warm, cozy, and offers the perfect opportunity to stash bust. Each house on Happy Street uses only a small amount of yarn to accomplish its siding, windows, roof, and other homey attributes. Feel free to customize every section of your homes. Red roofs, blue doors, or dark blue window panes might be just what your Happy Street houses need!

The pattern is knit from the bottom up in two panels and utilizes intarsia with multiple bobbins of yarn worked at once to create the houses, their doors, and the base of the roofs. You will then shape the armholes with decreases before working neckline shaping on the front panel. On the back panel you will work flat and then use GSR to shape the back of the neck. Three-needle bind off is used to join the shoulders together, and full-stitch mattress stitch to seam the sides together. After blocking, you will duplicate stitch on the windows, doorknobs, and house accents to make your happy street come to life!

The yarn management required to avoid tangling yarns during the intarsia section is likely the most difficult part of this pattern and is a large part of the reason behind its “Intermediate” skill ranking. I would not recommend this as your first intarsia project.

Size guide
The Happy Street Slipover is designed to have approximately 0-10 cm 0-4 inches of positive ease. This slipover design is not oversized like many slipover designs, so if you want a more oversized fit, I would recommend that you size up. The sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5); 6 (7, 8, 9, 10) are designed to fit a chest circumference of 70 (80, 90, 100, 110); 120 (130, 140, 150, 160)cm 28 (32, 36, 40, 44); 48 (52, 56, 60, 64) in. This slipover is designed to be cropped, but includes information about how much length the armholes will add. So, if you prefer a longer length, I recommend measuring it against a garment you like the fit of before beginning the armhole decreases to ensure you will be happy with the length!

Gauge:
17 sts x 24 rows in stockinette = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles (or whatever size needles are needed to reach gauge).

NOTE:
Should you wish to approach this slipover as a stash busting project, you can easily recreate each house with a very small amount of yarn. Each individual house will use under 10g of worsted weight yarn. Each roof will use 2-5g of worsted weight yarn. Smaller houses will use closer to 5g each and larger houses will use closer to 10g each. You can easily hold two strands of a DK weight yarn with one strand of a lace weight yarn to achieve a similar gauge to the recommended yarn, which would allow you to use one mini skein of DK yarn held double to make one house each, and so on!
