About this pattern
An airy lace crescent shawlette patterned on right side rows only, shaped by short rows. Using solid or semi-solid colors of yarn show off the stitch pattern best.

Finished size
47 x 12 in (120 x 30 cm)

Yardage
I used one single skein only, but one skein might not be enough yarn for you nevertheless. If in doubt, get a second skein to be sure.

Techniques
The cast on edge is worked form a seed stitch band which creates a nicer, firmer edge than a normal cast on would. This helps blocking the neckline straight later.

This pattern uses German short rows with their characteristic double stitches (ds). If you are unfamiliar with this method, use a wrap & turn (w&t) instead of every double stitch as the last stitch of the preceding row (wrap & turn stitches are worked BEFORE turning, double stitches AFTERWARDS).

Both methods results in a turning point at the same position: It does not change the position of the turning point if you first wrap the stitch and then turn, or if you turn and then wrap it (make a double stitch).

German short rows use a special stitch called “double stitch”. To make a double stitch, insert needle as if to purl with yarn in front. Slip stitch off the needle, pull working yarn strongly to back, so the slipped st falls to the back and the stitch in the round below is pulled up over the right hand needle.
