My home town of Amble, on the coast of Northumberland, has a long history of fishing and there still remains a fleet of fishing boats today. Amongst their seasonal catches are lobster (Amble even has it’s own hatchery!) and the pots that they use can be seen stacked high on the harbour’s edge. It is these pots that have been the inspiration for my delicately textured socks. Featuring a four row lace ‘net’ encased in bamboo stitch ‘ropes’, the pattern captures an image of daily harbour life in “The friendliest port”.

• The Harbour Pots socks are worked in the round from the top down, starting with the cuffs and working down to the toes. The heel flap construction offers a degree of reinforcement and the toes are grafted to avoid uncomfortable seams.
• The pattern has been written for working in the round using the magic loop method. You can, however, use your preferred method e.g. dpns, sharing your stitches across your needles accordingly.
• The front panel consists of a four row repeat featuring a simple lace pattern and bamboo stitch.
• As well as the lace and bamboo stitches, the pattern includes the following techniques: knitting in the round, ribbing, decreasing, short row shaping, picking up and knitting stitches, making stitches and grafting.

Sizing:
Adult sizes XS (S: M: L)
Sock circumference approx. 7.5 (8: 8.5: 9) inches/19 (20: 21.5: 23) cm.
To fit foot circumference approx. 8.5 (9: 9.5: 10) inches/21.5 (23: 24: 25.5) cm.
Materials:
Yarn: 100g 4ply/fingering weight sock yarn (pictured is West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply in Blue Raspberry). 100g (400m/437y) should be sufficient for any of the four sizes at the suggested gauge. You may require more yarn for larger feet or a longer leg.
Needles: 2.5mm single long circular needle (for magic loop) or size needed to achieve gauge below. You may also use dpns or two circular needles to suit your preferred method.
Notions: Stitch markers, stitch holder or length or waste yarn, darning needle, spare 2.5mm needle(optional).
Gauge:
30 sts and 44 rounds to 4 inches/10 cm in stocking/stockinette stitch.
