This cosy slipover features a slight drop-shoulder construction, easy all-over colourwork stripes and neat i-cord details. Sara Ottoson’s inspiration for this design came from the striped fabrics of Swedish folk costumes, mainly worn during midsummer celebrations. The name Hårga refers to a small village, a folk tune and a folk tale telling about how the devil made all the young people in Hårga dance until they died — elements that were prominently featured in the twisted version of Swedish Midsummer celebrations shown in the horror film Midsommar.

Notions: Locking stitch markers, 4 buttons (0.5-0.75” / 15–18 mm in diameter), stitch holder or waste yarn, sewing needle, sewing thread in the same colour as the buttons, row counter (optional but recommended).

GAUGE
22 sts x 20 rows and rnds to 4” / 10 cm on US 7 / 4.5 mm needles in 1 x 1 Colourwork Stockinette, after blocking. 20 sts x 24 rows and rnds to 4” / 10 cm on US 4 / 3.5 mm needles in 1 x 1 Rib, after blocking.

NOTES
The vest is worked from the top down, flat and in the round. The fronts, back and body are worked in all over 1 x 1 Colourwork Stockinette to create a striped fabric. First, the fronts are worked flat separately down to armholes, then stitches for the back are picked up along the shoulders and the back is worked flat down to the same length as the fronts. Then, the collar and plackets are worked in 1 x 1 Rib. The fronts and back are joined and an I-cord Bind-Off is worked around the edge. Stitches for the body are then picked up along the i-cord and the body is worked in the round down to a second I-Cord Bind-Off. Lastly, stitches for the hem are picked up along the second i-cord and worked in 1 x 1 Rib.
