Some ancient and relatively simple stitches are just made for baby blankets. The Harris Tweed Stitch is one such. It is easy to memorize, reversible, and results in a fabulous three-dimensional texture that will please Mom if not baby. This pattern has special meaning for me, since Harris is the middle name of both my son and his godfather.

This blanket may be made in two sizes and two weights of yarn to fit your situation. The instructions are given for a small or “half” sized blanket using worsted weight yarn, with instructions for small bulky weight and “full” sized blankets in both weights in parentheses. These two sizes are approximately 20in by 28in (50cm by 70cm) and 30in by 40in (75cm by 100cm).
