Look your best the next time you don your robes and head out to the pitch with these knee-high striped socks. Knit in durable wool/nylon sock yarn, they'll  weather years of abuse in the air and on solid ground without showing the slightest sign of wear, and the optional elastic at the top edge will prevent the dreaded downward creep so common with kneesocks. Your legs will be toasty and warm during even the coldest, rainiest matches and comfy as can be under your shinguards.

If you've never knit with double-pointed needles before, don't despair! They're not as complicated as they may seem. If you already know how to knit in the round on circular needles, you'll be flying in no time.

Techniques required for this pattern are: knitting, purling, slipped stitches, circular knitting on double-pointed needles, increases (k1b and m1), decreases (k2tog, k3tog, p3tog), short rows, and figure-eight cast-on.

This pattern produces a sock that is 6¾"[7½", 8¼"] in circumference at the ball of the foot, to fit a narrow woman's [wide woman's/narrow man's, wide man's] foot, respectively. The length of the foot and height of the leg are customizable.

The pattern uses 3[4, 4] skeins of main color and 1 skein of contrast color sock yarn, although you may need an extra skein of the main color if you're knitting for particularly long feet or legs. We recommend Lang Jawoll Superwash (75% wool, 18% nylon, 7% acrylic – 206 yds/50g per skein) in the following shades:

        House
        Main color
        Contrast color

Since Jawoll can be difficult to find, and because Lang varies its color palate quite frequently, here are alternate colors in the more widely-available Regia 4 Ply Solid (75% wool, 25% nylon – 225 yds/50g per skein):
