This hat is quick and easy to make. All you need to know is how to knit and purl in order to make it! It’s knitted in one piece, on flat needles, starting from the rim of the hat and working up to the top. The body is knitted in Pinecone stitch, which gives a diamond effect which looks like stacked pinecones, and is made up of knit and purl stitches. It’s so simple, but gives such a wonderful texture and cozy quilted effect.

The Pinecone stitch is repeated over 32 rows. I find it so satisfying to knit, because each time you do a row you can see the pinecones emerging. I think it’s such a beautiful, elegant, unique stitch that I’ve rarely seen used in other patterns. So let’s give it some love!

It’s also knitted with a band that folds over. I personally love this style because I find it makes the hat fit better and gives an extra layer of warmth. If you wanted to knit a shorter band, however, that would also work perfectly fine.

I hope you enjoy knitting this pattern! <3
