Hat on Straight Needles: Pinecones
by ZsaZsa Brown
This pattern is ideal for beginner knitters who want to try their hand at knitting a hat in a slightly more intricate stitch than what they might have tried before. Pinecone stitch only requires knit and purl stitches to achieve, and yet it gives such a beautiful effect!
This hat is knitted flat, which means that knitters who only know how to knit using single-pointed needles don’t need to learn how to use double pointed or circular needles first in order to knit this!
You’ll need…
- 1x pair 5mm single-pointed knitting needles
- 00g of Aran yarn (I have used 2x balls of Yarnsmiths Merino Aran in shade 4124 Ginger. I always suggest using yarn which contains real wool, rather than acrylic yarn, because it stops your hat from stretching out of shape over time!)
- x1 pair of scissors
- x1 ruler or tape measure
- x1 tapestry needle
- Optional: A skein of thread in a similar colour to your yarn, and a sewing needle. This is for if you plan to sew up the seam of your hat with needle and thread, but this can be done with the tail end of your yarn and your tapestry needle. This pattern will explain how to do both!
